National American Heart Awareness Month – Regulating Heart Disease

Heart Disease effects millions of Americans each year, the month of February can bring some much needed attention to this disease. Did you know that 1 in 4 men and women in America, will be affected by Heart Disease?

Here are some tips on how to monitor and prevent Heart Disease.

Talk to your doctor about what your blood pressure should be.

Record, Evaluate, Maintain

  • Be aware of your target heart rate and set a goal to lower your blood pressure. Speak to a physician regarding ways in which you can reach that goal. Be sure to track your progress over time. This way you will be able to see what may or may not be working to lower your pressure, and adjust it accordingly.

Heart Disease Medication

  • If you are prescribed medication to regulate your blood pressure, take it as directed. Use things like a timer on your phone or a daily pill case to remember to take it each day.

Get Rid of Bad Habits

  • Quit bad habits that can affect your blood pressure negatively. Quitting smoking and reducing the amount of sodium in your diet could greatly improve your blood pressure. I have to get mine checked on a regular basis and it honestly has helped me keep up with having a healthy heart and life style. I’m grateful for doctors that work hard to help people like me have good and healthy hearts.
